…A French ballet company formed to succeed the Ballets Russes, which was dissolved (1929) after the death of Diaghilev. The first performance was held in Monte Carlo in 1932 by Colonel de Basil (1888-1951) and René Blum (1878-1942), director of the Monte Carlo Opera House. Of the many attempts to succeed Diaghilev, this ballet company was the most successful.
