…In Lithuania, on the other hand, less than ten mythological songs have been collected, and some say that they may have been imported from Latvia. Latvian folklorist Krišjānis Barons (1835-1923) collected Latvian songs intensively from the late 19th century to the early 20th century, and the number of basic songs reached 35,789 and 180,000 varieties, resulting in the six volumes of the Latvian Song Collection Latvju dainas (1894-1915), which became the fundamental source of Baltic mythology. It is not clear what proportion of these songs are mythological, but for example, there are about 900 songs related to the Moon God. …
