The direction of one point on Earth measured from the north direction of the meridian that passes through that point is called the azimuth. It is generally expressed as an angle going clockwise from the north direction, and this angle is called the azimuth angle. The direction determined at the origin (the reference point for surveying and the geodetic coordinate system) on the spheroid Earth is called the origin, which serves as the basis for triangulation surveying and other geodetic observations and calculations.
