Artotype

...A type of printing plate also known as artotype or glass plate. The so-called photomechanical process, which uses the theory of photography to create plates, is used to produce various types of plates, but the collotype was the earliest type put into practical use by Germany's Albert J. Albert in the 1870s, and has been known in Japan since around 1889.
