...Handel's works (composed by Pepusch) were overwhelmingly popular. After Handel's death, opera composer T. Arne (1710-78), anthem composer W. Boyce, and organ composer S. Wesley (1766-1837) appeared, but British music as a whole went into a period of stagnation. In the 19th century, there are no notable works other than J. Field's piano pieces and A.S. Sullivan's operettas.
