In addition, the Kyushu Nature Trail (2,587 km) was completed by March 1981, the Chugoku Nature Trail (2,072 km) by March 1983, the Shikoku Nature Trail (1,637 km) and the Metropolitan Nature Trail (1,665 km) by 1989, and the Tohoku Nature Trail (4,374 km) by 1996 (see table). In foreign countries, the Appalachian Trail (from Maine to Georgia, total length about 3,200 km) in the United States and the Pacific Crest Trail (between the Canadian and Mexican borders) are well known.
