Almost all of this group of pigments exist as glycosides, and the aglycone part, which is the main part of the pigment, is called anthocyanidin, and its glycoside is called anthocyanin, or when there is no particular distinction between the two, they are called anthocyanins. The determination of the structure owes much to the research of the German chemist R.
