A general term for resins in which some or all of the hydrogen in polyethylene has been replaced with fluorine. Because fluorine atoms are inactive, fluororesins are particularly resistant to chemicals, water repellency, weather resistance, and heat, and because they have a small coefficient of friction, they are slippery and non-sticky. For this reason, they are used in household products such as frying pans and electric irons to prevent burning, as well as in piping in chemical plants, linings for kettles, and packing. Because they also have excellent electrical properties, they are also used in electrical insulating tape and coating for electric wires.
