A triangular pile of gravel with its apex facing the seaward side that can be seen at the water's edge of a sandy beach with pebbles. They are often regularly spaced apart, at intervals of several tens of centimeters to several tens of meters. They tend to form where the water's edge has a steep slope. They are said to be more likely to form at neap tides than at spring tides. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
