…It refers to a purely spiritual entity created as a being superior to humans. The Western word comes from the Greek word angelos, which means "messenger." Its origin is the "messenger of the Lord (God)" that appears frequently in the Old and New Testaments, and in Hebrew it is called mal'āḵ.
