A disciple of the 2nd Arashi Rikan, he was adopted by the 7th in 1833 (Tenpo 4) and took the name Kataoka Gadō. He was active in the Kamigata region with his adoptive father, and after his father's death in 1837, he adopted his haiku name Gadō and took the stage name Kataoka Gadō. …
