The two largest commercial banks, Algemene Bank Nederland (commonly known as ABN) and Amsterdam-Rotterdam Bank (commonly known as AMRO), control 60% of the financial market. The former was formed in 1964 by a merger between the Dutch Trading Company and Twente Bank, and the latter by a merger between the Amsterdam Bank and the Rotterdam Bank, but the two later merged again to form ABN AMRO. …
