A general term for the Semitic languages spoken in Ethiopia. Along with South Arabian, it is one of the Southeastern Semitic languages. It is heavily influenced by the base language Cushitic. It is divided into Northern Ethiopian, consisting of Ge'ez, Tigrigna, and Tigre, and Southern Ethiopian, consisting of Amharic, Hararic, Gurage, and Gafat.
