…The Swabian people, as a Germanic tribe, are the Alemanni (alle Männer) people who invaded and settled in the Roman territories between the Rhine and the Iller rivers, up to Lake Constance, in the 3rd century, and expanded their settlement area to Alsace, Switzerland, Vorarlberg, and east to the Lech river in the 5th century. They are one of the six tribes that make up the German people, along with the Saxons, Franks, Thuringians, Bavarians, and Friesens. The Alemanni and the area where they settled, Alemannia, began to be called Schwaben around the 10th century, and this name comes from the Suebi, a tribe that lived in Germania around the 1st century. The Swabian (Alemannic) society consisted of many sub-tribes with chiefdoms (kings and petty kings), but in the 5th century it moved towards unification. …
