Split seal - split seal

A seal is a seal that is stamped across two separate documents to confirm that they are related to each other. This is often required when certifying documents. For example, Article 6, paragraph 1 of the Civil Code Enforcement Act requires that a seal be stamped across both the ledger and the document when attaching a fixed date to a private document. When a document is made up of multiple pages, a seal is required to be stamped across the two pages to prove the connection between the several pages, in which case it is called a contract seal (Article 6, paragraph 2 of the Civil Code Enforcement Act, Articles 39, paragraph 5 and 41, paragraph 2 of the Notary Public Act).

二つの別々の書類が相互に関連があることを確認するために、二つの書類にまたがって一つの印章を押すこと。文書の証明などの際に要求されることが多い。たとえば、民法施行法第6条1項は、私署証書に確定日付を付す場合に帳簿と証書とにまたがって割印をすることを必要としている。一つの書類が複数枚にわたるときには、数紙間の連係を証するために二紙間にまたがって印章を押すことが要求されるが、この場合には契印とよばれる（同条2項、公証人法39条5項・41条2項）。
