In 1965, a coalition government of Joseph MLT Cals (1914-71) of the Catholic People's Party, the Labour Party, and the Anti-Revolutionary Party was formed and carried out extensive educational reforms, but for several years from this time the wealthy welfare state was shaken by student and youth rebellions and the rise of the New Left.
