The name of Kikuchi City, Kumamoto Prefecture. The main castle of the Kikuchi clan, the military governor of Higo, was located on the Shiroyama plateau in the northeast of the city, and a castle town was formed around it. The castle and place name were originally called Kumabe, but it is said that it came to be called Kumafu around the Muromachi period as it was the place where the military governor lived. In the early modern period, the center of Higo moved to Kumamoto (Kumamoto), and the area also came to be called Kumafu, so the area came to be called Waifu to distinguish it from the rest. The castle was abandoned during the Edo period, and Kikuchi Shrine was enshrined on the castle site in 1870. Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
