A language belonging to the East Slavic (Slavic branch) of the Indo-European language family. Also known as Byelorussian. The official language of the Republic of Belarus. It was used from the 14th to 16th centuries when Belarus was part of Lithuania, but it declined during the Polish and Russian periods, and was revived in the 20th century after the Russian Revolution. It contains many loanwords from Polish and Lithuanian. It uses the Cyrillic (Russian) alphabet.

インド・ヨーロッパ語族の東スラブ語（スラブ語派）に属する言語。白ロシア語とも。ベラルーシ共和国の公用語。14世紀から16世紀ベラルーシがリトアニア領であったころに使用されていたが，ポーランド領，ロシア領の時代には衰退し，20世紀になって，ロシア革命後に復活した。ポーランド語，リトアニア語からの借用語が多い。キリル文字（ロシア文字）を用いる。
