A language belonging to the East Slavic (Slavic branch) of the Indo-European language family. Also known as Byelorussian. The official language of the Republic of Belarus. It was used from the 14th to 16th centuries when Belarus was part of Lithuania, but it declined during the Polish and Russian periods, and was revived in the 20th century after the Russian Revolution.
