〘noun〙 (adjective) Something vulgar and lewd. Especially, dealing with things related to sexual desire in an unwholesome way or attitude. Something lewd that stimulates people's lust. Also, the state of being so. ※Kyōgyōhen (1783), Vol. 8 "It should be made in a refined way, far from obscene." ※Tosei Shosei Kaishû (1885-86), Tsubouchi Shōyō, Vol. 10 "It's bad to get too involved in obscenity ."
