…In 1903, the Italian mathematician G. Peano introduced the term Interlingua (meaning "international language"; a modified version of the above-mentioned Latino sine flexione, introduced in 1909), and Occidental (meaning "Western language"; introduced in 1922 by E. de Baer), but none of them were successful.
