Onsager's reciprocal theorem

A theorem that gives the symmetry of transport coefficients (electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, etc.) in a system that is slightly shifted from a state of thermal equilibrium. When the strength of the flow J _i can be written as J _i = Σ L _ij X _j with its conjugate force X _i , L _ij is called the Onsager coefficient, and L. Onsager showed from a consideration of the time change of fluctuations that L _ij = L _ji , unless there is something that destroys the symmetry of space, such as a magnetic field. This relationship is called the reciprocity theorem. This can be considered an example of the existence of reversibility in microscopic phenomena at the basis of the irreversible macroscopic phenomena that we encounter with our eyes.
