Agalmatolite

Japanese: 蠟石 - ろうせき（英語表記）agalmatolite

A waxy ore mainly composed of pyrophyllite. It can be white, light green, light blue, light yellow, light brown, or light gray. It is often formed by hydrothermal action in acidic igneous rocks, but it can also exist as a sedimentary rock. High-purity ores are somewhat transparent and have a dull luster, and have long been used as a raw material for slate pencils, seal materials, carvings, and decorative stones. They may be mixed with sericite (sericite). Other minerals include quartz, corundum, andalusite, diaspore, and boehmite, but may also be mixed with pyrite, hematite, and alumite.

パイロフィライト(葉蠟石)を主とする蠟感をもつ鉱石。白色，淡緑色，淡青色，淡黄色，淡褐色，淡灰色などの色を示す。酸性の火成岩などの熱水作用により生成されることが多いが，堆積岩として存在する場合もある。純度の高いものはやや透明感があり鈍い光沢を呈し，昔から石筆の原料，印材，彫刻用，飾石などに利用されている。これらには絹雲母(セリサイト)などの混合する場合がある。その他に石英，コランダム，紅柱石，ダイアスポア，ベーム石boehmiteなどを含有するが，黄鉄鉱，赤鉄鉱，ミョウバン石などを混存する場合もある。
