〘 noun 〙 During the Heian period, this was one of the ways in which a manor's territory was expanded. It meant cultivating the fields of other owners within the manor's four boundaries as manor fields, or cultivating land outside the four boundaries as manor fields. ※Todaiji documents - 4-10, July 7, 1070 (Enkyu 2), official decree: "In addition to the 20 cho of exempt fields for both manors, there are 68 cho and _one public field for _{the two} manors. _Each field is called manor fields, _{but is not} _subject to _national affairs. _"
