Architecture constructed with brick as the main material. It has been seen since the 5th millennium BC and was widely used as an architectural form in Mesopotamian civilization. It was inherited by Europe and became a mainstream form of European architecture during the Roman period and especially after the 16th century. In most cases, rectangular clay blocks of easy-to-handle size are fired and stacked to form the main parts, and wood is used for the cross members such as beams, but there are also cases where the entire structure is constructed with bricks alone or with bricks and cut stone alone. In the latter case, structures such as arches, vaults, and domes are used. There is also a long tradition of unfired sun-dried bricks, and they are still used in construction today in various regions, such as China and the Middle East.
