Spectroscopy using laser light. Spectroscopy is a science that aims to detect various properties of materials by shining electromagnetic waves on them and investigating the interactions between them. The response of materials is mainly observed as spectral lines. Important factors in measurement are how close together the spectral lines can be separated and observed (resolution), how weak the spectral lines can be observed (sensitivity), and how accurately the position and intensity of the spectral lines can be determined (precision). In conventional spectroscopy, these were limited by the performance of the spectrometer. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
