Aokage Castle

...The Murakami clan of Innoshima, well known as the representative of the Seto Inland Sea Navy, was known as the Santo Murakami clan together with the Murakami clan of Noshima (now Oshima) and Kurushima. They already had a great influence during the Nanboku-cho period, and while maintaining their independence throughout the Onin War and the Sengoku period of civil war, they were active in accepting invitations from feudal lords and taking sides in battles. Most of the medieval castle ruins that remain in Innoshima today, including Aokage Castle, are said to have been built by the Murakami clan. In addition, the record of Tenyo Kiyohiro, who traveled to China in 1468 (Onin 2), "Boushi Nyumyoki," records the "Kakushima Kumano Maru Rokuhyakukoku" as one of the ships bound for China, and other historical documents suggest that Innoshima was a shipping base from an early period. ...

…なお瀬戸内水軍の代表としてよく知られる因島の村上氏は，能島（のしま）(現，大島)と来島（くるしま）の村上氏と合わせて三島（さんとう）村上と称せられ，すでに南北朝時代より大きな力を有し，応仁の乱から戦国争乱期を通じて，独立を維持しながら，時々の合戦のたびに大名の招きをうけていずれかにみかたするという形で活躍した。青陰城をはじめとして現在因島に残る中世の城跡は，ほとんどが村上氏の築城と伝えられる。また1468年(応仁2)に明に渡った天与清啓の記録《戊子入明記》には，渡唐船の一艘として〈隠島熊野丸六百斛〉が記されており，因島が早くから海運の拠点であったことは他の史料からもうかがわれる。…
