...More recently, pressure groups have been increasingly active in public opinion activities, seeking public understanding and mobilizing public support. This type of pressure group activity is considered indirect lobbying, as opposed to direct lobbying of the legislature and executive branch, and is also called "grass-roots lobbying" because of its mass-oriented nature. The person who carries out this type of lobbying activity is none other than the "lobbyist." In the modern age of pressure groups, this type of lobbying is a phenomenon commonly seen in advanced democracies, but its actual situation differs considerably from country to country.
