A Japanese newspaper from the Meiji period. It was a small newspaper founded by Yamada Fugai (Konosuke) in January 1883, and in June of the same year, its management was transferred to Choya Shimbun. As a sister paper of Choya Shimbun, it published editorials in support of civil rights. It grew into an influential small newspaper, but its circulation began to stagnate around 1887. In 1889, it severed its relationship with Choya Shimbun and changed its title to Edo Shimbun. Source: About Shogakukan Digital Daijisen Plus Information |
