Realschule (English spelling)

Japanese: レアルシューレ（英語表記）Realschule

A type of secondary school in Germany. It is translated as a practical school. It is a 6-year secondary school that trains intermediate engineers, civil servants, etc. It is said that the first was the Realschule, which was founded in Halle in 1706 by C. Semmler and focused on mathematics and mechanics. It became widespread in place of the 9-year Gymnasium and was later used as a model for educational reform in other countries. Graduates are given a certificate of intermediate completion (mittlere Reife) and can go directly into society, transfer to a Gymnasium, which is a preparatory institution for further education, or even gain work experience and go on to a higher professional education institution. The curriculum is characterized by its emphasis on practical subjects in addition to academic subjects.

ドイツの中等学校の1種。実科学校と訳される。中級技術者，公務員などを養成する6年制の中等学校。 1706年 C.ゼムラーがハレに設立した数学と機械学を中心とするレアルシューレが最初のものといわれ，9年制のギムナジウムに代って普及し，その後諸外国の教育改革のモデルとされた。卒業者には中間成業証 mittlere Reifeが与えられ，直接社会に出るほか，進学準備機関であるギムナジウムへの転学，さらには職業経験を経て上級の専門職業教育機関への進学の道も開かれている。カリキュラムはアカデミックな教科目のほか，実務的な教科目を重視している点に特徴がある。
