Dasht-e Lūt (English spelling)

Japanese: ルート砂漠 - ルートさばく（英語表記）Dasht-e Lūt

A desert that spans eastern Iran, Kerman, Khorasan, and Sistan ba Baluchistan provinces. It stretches from the northwest to the southeast, with a length of about 320 km and a width of about 160 km. The eastern part is a huge mass of sand dunes and sandy plateaus, while the western part is a wind-eroded corridor-like terrain that divides a vast area of high peaks into a unique topography called a yardang. The lowlands below 300m above sea level form salt flats, and the heat and low humidity in summer are said to be unparalleled. It was recognized as a unique example of geological processes and was registered as a natural World Heritage Site in 2016.

イラン東部，ケルマーン州，ホラーサーン州，シースターン・バ・バルチスターン州にまたがる砂漠。北西から南東にかけて広がり，長さ約 320km，幅約 160kmに及ぶ。東部は砂丘や砂の高台からなる一つの巨大な地塊であり，西部は風食された回廊状の地形が高い峰々の連なる広大な地域を区切り，ヤルダンと呼ばれる独特の地形をなす。標高 300m以下の低地は塩原をなし，夏場の暑さと低湿度は他に類がないといわれる。地質学的過程のたぐいまれな事例として評価され，2016年に世界遺産の自然遺産に登録。
