Lutoslawski

Japanese: ルトスワフスキ
Lutoslawski
Polish composer, pianist, and conductor. One of the most representative composers of the second half of the 20th century. After studying mathematics at the University of Warsaw in his hometown, he entered the Warsaw Conservatory. After his early works, such as Concerto for Orchestra (1954), which were heavily influenced by Bartók, he gained international acclaim with works such as Funeral Music for string orchestra (1958), Venetian Games for chamber ensemble (1961), and Three Poems of Henri Michaux for chorus and instrumental ensemble (1963). He led the Polish composition scene after World War II, which produced many talented composers such as K. Serocki (1922-1981), T. Weild (1928-1981), Penderecki, and Gorecki. Although he incorporated techniques such as aleatorics (chance music), his works are extremely logical and his idiom is highly original. Other well-known works include the String Quartet (1964), the orchestral piece Mi Parti (1976), Symphony No. 3 (1983), the Chain series for orchestra and solo instruments (1983, 1985, 1986), and the Piano Concerto (1988).
