A girl who sacrificed herself for the liberation of Korea. She was a student at Ewha School. At the age of 15, she was one of the student leaders who participated in the March 1st Independence Movement in Seoul. After the school closed, she returned to her hometown of South Chungcheong Province and planned to continue the movement in various places, including Cheonan, Yeongi, Cheongju, and Jincheon. She led the Heisen Market Uprising and was arrested and imprisoned. She did not succumb to the torture of the Japanese authorities, and continued to denounce the injustice of her trial, teaching the people the legitimacy of national independence and the dignity of patriotism. She died of illness as a result of the torture. She is also known as the "Joan of Arc of Korea."
