Li Bing (English spelling) Lǐ Bīng

Japanese: 李冰 - りひょう（英語表記）Lǐ Bīng

Chinese Qin politician. Date of birth and death unknown. During the reign of King Zhao (reigned 306-251 BC), he became the governor of Shu (Sichuan Province) and was involved in flood control of the Min River. He led the people of Chengdu to build a dam called Dujiangyan in the middle of the river northwest of Guan County, dividing the river in two and installing sluice gates to regulate the water volume. This water conservancy not only prevented the surrounding area from flooding, but also made irrigation and navigation easier, and is said to have brought immeasurable benefits to the land of Shu.

中国，秦の政治家。生没年不詳。昭王(在位，前306‐前251)のとき蜀(四川省)の太守となり，岷江（みんこう）の治水事業にたずさわった。すなわち，成都の民を発して，灌県の北西の江中に都江堰（とこうえん）と呼ばれる堰堤を築いて流れを二分し，さらに水門を設けて水量の調節をはかった。この水利施設により付近一帯は洪水の害をまぬがれたばかりでなく，灌漑や航運に便利となり，蜀の地に計り知れぬ利益をもたらしたと伝えられる。
