A white pigment made from a mixture of zinc sulfide and barium sulfate. When a zinc sulfate solution is added to a barium sulfide solution and reacted, the above co-precipitates. This is washed, filtered, dried, and then baked at around 800°C in an airtight container, then dropped into water and quenched to obtain the pigment. It has good hiding power and coloring power, and is also highly resistant to water and alkali, but is attacked by dilute acids. It turns black when mixed with water and exposed to sunlight. In Japan, due to the rising cost of pollution prevention facilities, it was no longer profitable to produce it, and production was discontinued in July 1973. It is now mainly imported from China and Germany. Most of it is used as white paint.
