Rhythm and blues

Rhythm and blues
A type of African-American popular music that was popular from the 1940s to the 1960s. It is also called R&B for short. At its core, it is a type of music that combines electric instruments with blues to emphasize the beat and incorporates elements of jazz and gospel songs, but it is a fairly broad term that also includes small choruses with a lighter beat called doo-wop and sweet love ballads by solo singers. In the 1960s, it was succeeded by more sophisticated soul music, and the term fell out of use.
