German surgeon. German name Wilhelm Fabry von Hilden. Born in Hilden near Düsseldorf, he received his higher education in Cologne, then trained in orthopedic surgery, and became an assistant to the surgeon Kosmas Slot. He deepened his scientific medical knowledge through many dissections, and opened clinics in Cologne, Lausanne, and Bern. He invented tourniquets and surgical instruments, and developed cataract and other surgeries. He is the author of many books and is called the "father of German surgery."

ドイツの外科医。ドイツ名Wilhelm Fabry von Hilden。デュッセルドルフに近いヒルデンに生まれ，ケルンで高等教育を受けたあと，床屋外科で修業し，ついで外科医スロットKosmas Slotの助手となった。多くの解剖で科学的医学知識を深め，ケルン，ローザンヌ，ベルンで開業した。止血帯，外科器械などを考案し，白内障その他の手術を開発した。多くの著書があり，“ドイツの外科の父”とよばれる。
