Yi Sangjwa (English spelling)

Japanese: 李上佐 - りじょうさ（英語表記）Yi Sangjwa

A Korean painter from the early Joseon period. Born in Jeonju. His pen name was Gongyu and his title was Hakpo. He was a servant of a scholar-in-law, but was selected by Jungjong as he excelled at painting from an early age, and became a painter at the Drawing Office in the early 16th century. He specialised in landscapes and portraits, and is famous as one of the leading painters of the early Joseon period along with An Jian and Kang Hiyan. His style of painting is similar to that of Ma Yuan and Xia Gui from the Southern Song dynasty in China. His representative works include "Walking with the Moon Under a Pine Tree" (National Museum of Korea), "Sleeping in Leisure" and "Dharma".

朝鮮，李朝前期の画家。全州の出身。字は公祐，号は学圃。士人の奴であったが，幼少より画技にすぐれていたため中宗に取立てられ，16世紀初期に図画署の画員となった。山水，人物を得意とし，安堅，姜希顔 (きょうきがん) らとともに李朝前期を代表する画家として著名。画風は中国南宋の馬遠，夏珪の作風を受継ぐ。代表作『松下歩月図』 (韓国国立中央博物館) ，『暇閑眠図』『達磨図』。
