Lapita Pottery - Lapita Pottery

This is the oldest pottery in Oceania, found in the southwest Pacific Ocean between 1600 BC and AD. The type name comes from the Lapita ruins in New Caledonia. It is said to have been brought by a maritime people who spoke Austronesian languages, and its distribution indicates that they navigated and traded over vast ocean areas. 南西太平洋で，紀元前1600年から紀元ころにかけて分布したオセアニア最古の土器。型式名はニューカレドニアのラピタLapita遺跡にちなむ。アウストロネシア語を話す海洋民族がもたらしたといわれ，その分布から広大な海域を航海し，交易を行っていたことがわかる。
