Also known as pyroelectricity or pyroelectricity. The phenomenon in which a crystal becomes electrically charged when part of it is heated. This phenomenon is particularly prevalent in tourmaline, from which the name is derived. It is said to have been discovered by FUT Epinus in 1756, but it is also said to have been discovered earlier. If you sprinkle powdered red lead and sulfur on a heated crystal while it is cooling, the red lead will gather in the negatively charged parts and the sulfur will gather in the positively charged parts, which can be observed. 1756年F.U.T.
