Autumn chrysanthemum

…The length of the day plays an important role in the formation of flower buds in plants. Chrysanthemums (autumn daisies) form flower buds only when the day length is shorter than a certain time (these are called short-day plants), while snapdragons and stocks form flower buds only when the day length is longer than a certain time (these are called long-day plants). In order to suppress the formation of flower buds in short-day plants and allow them to continue their vegetative growth, or to promote the flowering of long-day plants, growing plants under electric light for a few hours at night is called electric light cultivation.
