Located in northern Venezuela on the Caribbean Sea, it is the country's largest port city. It has a population of about 20,000. It was built in 1577 as an outer port for the capital, Caracas. Cotton, cacao, coffee, etc. are exported, and in recent years, industries such as marine product processing, lumber, and chemical products have developed. Over the past few years, it has been developed as an affordable resort center for the citizens of Caracas. In 1812, F. Miranda surrendered to the royalist forces here, and in 1815, S. Bolivar fled to Jamaica from here. [Kamitani Hiroshi] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
