Awazu Offerings - Awazuku Gonin

Japanese: 粟津供御人 - あわづくごにん

〘Noun〙 The residents of Mikuriya, Awazu, Omi Province (Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture ) , mainly fishermen, who gave offerings to the Imperial Court and obtained certain privileges. From around the end of the Heian period, they presented freshwater fish as offerings to the Uchinokashiwa de no Tsukasa , and also had the privilege of selling them in Kyoto. After the Northern and Southern Courts period, they obtained the privilege of selling salt and daily necessities in addition to fish, and were exempt from the official duties of the fish shelf .

〘名〙近江国粟津（滋賀県大津市）御厨(みくりや)の漁師を主とする住民で、朝廷に供御を献じてある種の特権を得ていた人びと。平安末期頃から、内膳司(うちのかしわでのつかさ)の供御人として淡水魚を献じ、また、京都において販売する特権を有した。南北朝以降は魚のほかに塩や日用品などを販売する特権を得、魚棚(うおのたな)の公事(くじ)を免ぜられた。
