Yokogura no Ki - Yokogura no Ki

Japanese: ヨコグラノキ - よこぐらのき

A deciduous tree of the Rhamnaceae family that occasionally grows in isolated locations such as valleys and cliffs. Young branches are slightly purplish reddish brown with elongated lenticels and are glabrous, turning gray as they age. The leaves are alternate, often appearing as pairs of leaves alternately growing on each side. The leaf blade is ovate, 8-10 cm long, 2.5-4.5 cm wide, with a circular base and a 1 cm stalk, and a tail-like tip. The veins are pinnate, with 7-8 pairs running parallel to each other and curving upward near the edge, creating a slightly wavy edge. The underside of the leaf is powdery white.

まれに渓谷やがけなどに孤立的に生えるクロウメモドキ科の落葉小高木。若枝はやや紫がかった赤褐色で，細長い皮目があり，無毛，古くなると灰色となる。葉は互生し，しばしば左右に交互に2枚ずつの葉が展開するように見える。葉身は卵形で，長さ8～10cm，幅2.5～4.5cm，基部は円形で約1cmの柄があり，先は尾状にのびる。脈は羽状脈で，7～8対が平行して走り，縁近くで上向きに曲がり，やや波状の縁をつくる。葉裏は粉白色を帯びる。
