One of the Thirty-Three Kannon. It is said that holding a willow branch in his hand, Kannon's main vow is to heal people's illnesses, and he is also known as Medicine King Kannon. He is a favorite subject of Buddhist paintings, and is sometimes depicted holding a willow branch in his right hand or inserting a willow branch into a water jar beside him. The "Yangyu Kannon" (Asakusa Temple, Tokyo) by the Goryeo monk Ekikyo is famous as a masterpiece of Goryeo Buddhist painting. 三十三観音の一つ。柳の枝を手に持って,人々の病気をなおすことを本誓とするといい,薬王観音とも呼ばれる。仏画の画題として愛好され,右手に柳枝を持つ姿のほか,柳枝をかたわらの水瓶に差している図もある。高麗僧慧虚筆の『楊柳観音図』 (東京,浅草寺) は高麗仏画の傑作として名高い。
