Japanese: ウルツ鉱 - うるつこう（英語表記）wurtzite

A zinc sulfide mineral (ideal chemical composition ZnS). It has a similar composition to sphalerite (cubic crystal system), an important source of zinc, but a different crystal structure. Hexagonal crystal system, Mohs hardness 3.5-4, specific gravity 4.1. It has a crystal structure in which Zn and S arranged in a hexagonal close-packed structure overlap one another. Pure ZnS is stable at temperatures above 1020°C, and sphalerite below that, but when some of the Zn is replaced by Fe or other elements, wurtzite is stable at lower temperatures. It is also said that wurtzite is more likely to precipitate from acidic ore solutions.

亜鉛の硫化鉱物(理想化学組成ZnS)。亜鉛の原料として重要なセン亜鉛鉱(等軸晶系)とは組成は同様であるが，結晶構造が異なる。六方晶系，モース硬度3.5～4，比重4.1。六方最密充てん構造に配列したZnとSとが，一つおきに重なった結晶構造をもっている。純粋なZnSは1020℃以上ではウルツ鉱，以下ではセン亜鉛鉱が安定であるが，Znの一部がFeなどで置換されると，ウルツ鉱はより低温まで安定である。また酸性の鉱液からはウルツ鉱が沈殿しやすいといわれている。
