The machi-doshiyori in Edo were originally called "Edo-juku no toshiyori." There were three families, Naraya, Taruya, and Kitamura, and they were bestowed corner houses in Nihonbashi Honcho 1-chome, 2-chome, and 3-chome, respectively.
