Unit load system

A system in which goods are transported and stored in a fixed manner from origin to destination without being shifted along the way in order to reduce the overall costs of loading, transporting, and storing in physical distribution activities. It has spread rapidly on a global scale since the 1960s. A physical distribution system requires that transportation, storage, and communication networks function as a comprehensive system. Physical distribution costs vary greatly depending on how this system is established. Because a system that streamlines transportation is not the same as a system that makes storage functional, efficiency has been pursued across all areas of physical distribution activities.

物的流通活動において，荷役，輸送，保管の全体的なコスト削減のため，発地から着地まで途中で荷崩しをすることなく一定の方法で輸送し，保管するシステム。1960年代以降急速に世界的規模で広がった。物的流通システムは，輸送，保管，通信ネットワークなどが総合的なシステムとして機能する必要がある。このシステムをどのように確立するかによって物的流通コストは大きく変化する。輸送を能率的にするシステムと保管を機能的にするシステムとは同じではないので，物的流通活動の全領域にわたって効率化が追求されてきた。
