Uruguay Round

Japanese: ウルグアイ･ラウンド（英語表記）Urguay Round

The 8th General Tariff Negotiations organized by GATT (General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade), more specifically the Urguay Round of multinational trade negotiations, is the common name for this round. It follows the Kennedy Round and the Tokyo Round, and was so named because it began in Punta del Este, Uruguay in 1986. Unlike the previous two, it focused primarily on trade in services, which had been gaining importance in international trade, intellectual property rights, market access issues, and agriculture, which has a strong tendency toward protectionism.

GATT（ガット）が主催した第8回一般関税交渉の通称で詳しくはUrguay Round of multinational trade negotiations。ケネディ･ラウンド，東京ラウンドに続くもので，1986年ウルグアイのプンタ･デル･エステで開始されたのでこう呼ばれる。前2回のそれと違い，貿易の中で比重を大きくしてきたサービス貿易や知的所有権，市場アクセスの問題や保護主義的傾向の強い農業などがおもな対象とされた点が特徴。
