A device that uses hydraulic pressure to move a piston in a cylinder, and does mechanical work by pushing and retracting a rod attached to the piston. It is widely used as an actuator (the operating part of an automatic control system) in hydraulic jacks, extruders, construction machinery, agricultural machinery, etc.
