Symbolic geometric figures are used by Hindus, especially Tantrists, as an aid in meditation. By concentrating on the figure, it becomes apparent in the mind, and the meaning is experienced vividly. They can be painted on various materials in advance or drawn as the meditation progresses. ヒンドゥー教徒,とくにタントリズムを行ずる人々が瞑想の補助具として用いる象徴的幾何学図形による図像。その図形に意識を集中することにより,心中にそれを炳現(へいげん)(あきらかに現れること)させ,その意味するところを生き生きとした経験として体得するのである。さまざまな素材にあらかじめ描かれたものと,瞑想の進行にしたがって描き上げられていく場合とがある。象徴する内容は用途にしたがって次の4種に大別される。
